The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, Central West End location, is a 96-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital that offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, designed to return patients to leading active and independent lives. This location is a 93,000-square-foot hospital and offers 80 semi-private and 16 private rooms with individual televisions with cable, telephones and wireless internet capabilities.
The St. Peters location is a 35-bed, 40,000 square foot inpatient rehabilitation hospital offering all private rooms with cable television, a telephone and wireless internet capabilities.
Our hospital provides a wide range of physical rehabilitation services, a vast network of highly-skilled, independent private practice physicians and HealthSouth therapists and nurses, and the most innovative equipment and rehabilitation technology, ensuring that all patients have access to the highest quality care.
In addition to caring for general rehabilitation diagnoses such as orthopedics, cardiac and oncology patients, The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis has specialized inpatient programs for stroke, brain injury, amputee and spinal cord patients. Other services offered at the Central West End location include Day Treatment, Evidenced-Based Aphasia Clinic and Driving Connections.
Our two locations serve patients throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan Area as well as St. Charles County. Our Central West End hospital is located at 4455 Duncan Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri. Our St. Peters Hospital, located within Barnes Jewish St. Peters Hospital, can be found at 10 Hospital Drive, St. Peters, Missouri.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. The hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies as needed.
Inpatient Admissions Criteria
All patients admitted to The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis shall meet general inpatient criteria as established by Medical Staff Guidelines, as well as program specific criteria for admission and discharge. Generally, the patient will:
- Be medically stable
- Have the potential to benefit from rehabilitation
- Have a recent decrease in functional level of independence
- Be able to actively participate in 2 disciplines of therapy; PT a must
- Be able to tolerate up to 3-hours of therapy a day
- Have a goal to return home
- Be willing to participate, have the ability to learn, and be able to improve
- Need intense therapy not achievable at home or in another setting
- No patients on vents
- No permanent nursing home residents
- Assisted living residents acceptable
- Physician Approval
- Financial Approval
- Bed Availability
